A Melbourne-based AI chip designer has secured its first major defence contract, supplying low-power inference hardware for use in autonomous systems trials.
The deal marks a rare local win in a semiconductor sector dominated by offshore giants, and follows several years of the company operating largely under the radar on defence-grade silicon design.
“This is a proof point that Australia can compete on specialised silicon, not just software,” the company's chief executive said.
