The United Kingdom and Australia have expanded their defence cooperation pact to include joint artificial intelligence research initiatives, building on existing submarine and procurement ties.
The agreement establishes shared funding for dual-use AI research, with an emphasis on autonomous systems and secure communications technology.
“This formalises collaboration that's already been happening informally between our research institutions for years,” a defence department spokesperson said.
